About Oliver Wood – Film Crew Pro member

Oliver Wood

I have been a semi-professional photographer for a quite a number of years and have a tendency to cover a wide range of subjects. I do all the usual things, weddings, bands, postcard images for local lifestyle mags etc. However, my primary artistic direction is, in some ways, divorced from the commercial work that I do but this default artistic and personal approach is of the greatest interest to me and provides the most satisfaction.

I have an interest in whimsy and the curious or beguiling aspects of the more rural or remote parts of the British isles, I like weather, nature, verdant places and petricore moods after summer rain. An intense curiosity which some have described as almost ‘transcendent’ or having some ability to make the common-place and overlooked appear uniquely interesting is a key aspect of my way of seeing, and it tends to be conveyed through my photographic style or choice of subject. I like to create bold images that have a quality of solidity with highly delineated composition and a certain density of form. It is difficult to put into words really.

A very receptive state of mind --- not unlike a sheet of film itself - seemingly inert, yet so sensitive that a fraction of a second's exposure conceives a life in it." Minor White Art Photography pioneer c 1950
