Quarry Bank – Visit 2021
Just rehashing some pictures from a visit to Quarry Bank mill near Styal, Cheshire. This is a location that I pass often when cycling to the airport and beyond or returning home from some parts of south Manchester. It is a very famous National Trust site with a lot of history and plenty of interesting things to see.
The light on the building above was exquisite and I had to rush to get my camera set up for this quite fleeting shot, as cloud was about to obscure the sun. I was imagining what it would have been like if I was on my lunch break as a mill worker back at the turn of the 20th century. I would probably be working in the boiler room or have some other job relating to the engineering aspect of the mill’s operation. I imagine this would have been very interesting and quite fulfilling, literally keeping the wheels of industry turning. So many jobs today just don’t have quite the same sense of tangible purpose or impact.
