A day hunting pictures in Manchester
My second visit to Manchester city of the year 2025. I rarely venture into Manchester in the winter months, the light was good-ish but difficult with very high contrast and a lot of shadowing around tall buildings.
The city is in a state of almost continuos flux, yet more new buildings have appeared in the vicinity of the Hilton hotel, previously known as the Beetham Tower and Manchester’s first very tall modern glass sided ‘sky scraper’. I can vividly remember when this was going up too and watching enormously precarious red tower cranes fastened to the sides of the structure hoisting the component parts for the top floors from ground level.
Many people like this new skyline and I have to say it is impressive and gives the city a very modern edge but in other ways it can distract from the historic human scale of Manchester. I generally prefer the romantic vibe of old historic London or Paris with many old Portland stone buildings and no more than 4 stories high.
