Central library – stressed
An image of the grand Central Library in St Peter’s Square, Manchester. I took this on the 17th of May whilst following a number of lively protests around the city. The image has been treated with a ‘stress’ tone-map. I like the way it has almost denatured the photograph and made it look more like a low rez pixel print or even a slightly pointillist image albeit one with very fine grain. The general tonality is also slightly suggestive of infrared photography.
The building is not as old as one may think on first sighting. It was constructed in 1933 at very great expense and is a fine example of what can be achieved with vision and a regard for traditional materials and crafts. If only we had more of this kind of architectural ‘vision’ in Manchester.
